Amal Clooney Dresses Casually On Day Off, Wearing Distressed Jeans And Plaid Coat

[8:58] Human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney is pictured before a meeting in the Greek Culture Ministry in Athens
(Photo:evening gowns)

Amal Clooney was pictured in the Notting Hill neighborhood of London on Tuesday, wearing her favorite distressed jeans, paired with a black crop top that showed a little of her midriff. She donned a sleeveless Tome trenchcoat in plaid. The Citizens of Humanity ripped jeans and vest added to the laid-back vibe, according to Vogue.

The 37-year-old human rights lawyer had a day off. She completed the look with a pair of black peep-toe heels and carried a matching handbag. She added a dash of color to her summery ensemble with pink lipstick. Her makeup was flawless and her raven hair was styled into a natural curl. She also wore Heidi London sunglasses.

The bold plaid print has been seen all over the runways at Oscar de la Renta, Altuzarra and Doce & Gabbana this season.

Amal’s casual outing came after a busy start to the week, with the lawyer appearing at the Supreme Court in London to help argue the case for former residents of the Chagos Islands, who were forcibly removed from their homeland more than 40 years ago. The legal team including Clooney, which is headed by Edward Fitzgerald QC, claimed the former residents of the tiny Indian Ocean islands suffered “a significant injustice” when they were relocated to make way for an airbase.

The London barrister, who married Hollywood actor George Clooney last year, looked elegant in a black-and-white polka dot dress. She kept her long tresses loose in natural waves. Amal looked chic in a Christian Dior vintage skirt and jacket set.

The dress featured a high neckline and a hemline that ended just above the knees. The suit had a slight peplum styling on the waist with statement pockets. Amal kept her accessories very simple in the form of a smart leather handbag by Dior, matching heels in suede by Prada and a pair of large sunglasses by the same brand. The barrister chatted to colleagues as she left the iconic building. Her makeup was flawless and consisted of pink lipstick, while she wore small earrings.Read more here:evening dresses online

Victoria Beckham Debuts Denim at VVB

A resort look from the Victoria Victoria Beckham collection.

Flicking through the rails of her new Victoria Victoria Beckham resort collection hanging in her cavernous Dover Street store in London, the famous proprietor and brand namesake already plotting how she’ll work the designs into her wardrobe. “When I’m on holiday, I’ll wear one of these little formal dress shops sydney,” Beckham told WWD, picking up an empire-line camisole dress in deep marigold, before singling out a boxy denim jacket that she’ll wear with “jeans and one of our new T-shirts.”

“I’m really excited about this collection — it’s exactly what I want in my wardrobe, these are things that I want to wear, and I think these are things that my customer wants to wear,” said the designer, who today cuts a sleek, tanned figure in a sleeveless black top and pants from her pre-fall collection, with a yellow, oblong-shaped diamond ring sparkling on her finger.

The resort collection is the first Victoria Victoria Beckham collection to encompass the designer’s denim line. And the fusion of the two lines happened “quite naturally,” she said. “It’s something that we wanted to do as a team for a long time,” added Beckham, who had launched VVB chiefly as a dress collection in 2012. “We’d been focusing on unique formal dresses, so it’s been great to be able to have jeans and shirting, [too].” Meanwhile Zach Duane, chief executive officer of Victoria Beckham, said while both the VVB collection and Victoria Beckham Denim line performed “with strong sell-through and overall seasonal growth,” he believes that by presenting the lines as one collection “the…impact to the business will be greater.”

The collection for resort has a bold, youthful spirit, with Beckham working up strong yet feminine silhouettes, in a palette that contrasts striking reds and deep yellows with black, white and pastel blue. Beckham drew inspiration from the circus, inspired by what she called its “fun, colorful attitude,” evinced in elephant and big-top motifs on dresses and an acrobat-and-dancing horses print on a yellow silk pantsuit. There’s also a print inspired by a flower that had caught Beckham’s eye when she was designing the collection in China during a trip there earlier this year, which she’s done in yellow, blue and red on a roomy tank minidress with fluted chiffon skirts.

The looks span the dramatic — such as a white cotton piqué dress with cape sleeves embroidered with dancing elephants — to quieter ensembles. One black wool gabardine minidress has subtle vinyl flowers at the hem — that can be removed, should the wearer wish — while there are short-sleeved blouses in crisp cotton with full, fluted sleeves, and jeans that run from wide-leg denim culottes to skinny, faded jeans patched with vinyl flowers. The collection will also include the denim line’s core fits, alongside the more fashion-led designs.

But while there’s a strong design direction, Beckham is adamant that the customer is first when she’s creating the collection. For example, she underlined that there’s “nothing challenging” in the more voluminous looks in the lineup. “It’s done in a really flattering way…it’s just fun and cool and fresh.”

Prices for the collection run from $215 for a jersey kick-sleeve T-shirt through to $1,895 for a leather jacket with appliquéd flowers, and Beckham emphasized that she doesn’t see it as a diffusion line. “[They’re] designer clothes, slightly less expensive, but without compromising with regards to design or fabric. We’ve had a lot of feedback from our retail partners that this space wasn’t being occupied by anybody,” said Beckham, explaining the collection’s new positioning. Added to that, retailers were often sitting her denim line next to the VVB collection. Duane pointed out that the merging of the two lines won’t mean a change to their distribution, with the collection having potential to sit as a complete lineup within a designer environment, while the core denim styles could sit within denim departments.

And as to the woman who wears the line, Beckham described her as the same person who’s a fan of her mainline collection, “but it’s the other side to her wardrobe. I think there is also a younger customer as well…[but] I have a lot of friends who are my age, my mum friends, who don’t buy the [mainline] collection who love VVB,” she said.

Considering fashion’s current Nineties obsession, Beckham — who knows more than a little about the trends of that decade — said while the era has “influenced” her collections in the past, she’s so far holding back on nostalgia for her own Spice Girl outfits of the period. “I’m not sure that any of my particular looks from the Nineties will be inspiring us — they will probably be horrifying most of my team,” she admitted with a wry smile. “I wouldn’t say my PVC catsuits would be reappearing, put it that way.” She also swatted away the latest rumors of a Spice Girls reunion. “I really support [her former band members] in everything they do and they’re so supportive of what I’m doing, but I couldn’t possibly do that,” she said of a reunion. “It was great when we did the [London] Olympics…but I won’t be doing that anymore,” she said. “I’m so busy with what I’m doing here, with all the collections and all the categories — and first and foremost I have a husband and children and so I wouldn’t be able to do that,” she said of the prospect of reforming the band.

What of her family’s increasing involvement in the fashion sphere, with husband David signing a deal last year with Global Brands, and eldest son Brooklyn appearing on the cover of British magazine Rollacoaster this month? “We really support each other, [but] what we do is very, very different,” said Beckham of her and David’s ventures.

Brooklyn, meanwhile, enjoys the “creative process” of a shoot, Beckham said. “He’s just finished his GCSEs [U.K. high school exams] and so he’s done a couple of shoots. He loves photography and art, so for him when he does the occasional shoot it’s more than just him having his picture taken,” she said. Though perhaps aside from Victoria’s, the most envied Beckham wardrobe belongs to that of her three-year-old daughter Harper. Last week, a collection of Harper’s outfits that Beckham had donated to Save the Children — among them Chloé, Charlotte Olympia and Stella McCartney designs – had customers queuing round the block in London to buy the hand-me-downs. “Was I expecting the success of selling her clothes?” mused Beckham. “I knew a lot of people would like them because they were in really great condition and they were beautiful clothes…and it’s great that when she has grown out of them that somebody else can enjoy them.” And the experience has clearly given Harper a buzz: After donating her clothes, Beckham related that the altruistic toddler has since “been through all of her teddy bears and lovvies that she takes to bed,” and volunteered to donate those, too.

But aside from the family’s perennial celebrity status, Beckham’s fashion business is clearly gathering momentum. Alongside the new VVB collection, she’s planning to open a store in Hong Kong early next year, with stores in U.S. locations such as New York, Miami and Los Angeles on the cards after that. She’s also got what she called a “very exciting” project in the works, but was mum on further details, and said she’d be keen to delve into categories such as “shoes or children’s or men’s. I’d love to at some point when the time is right.”

But for now, she said, “there’s an enormous amount going on.”

How can you be a fashion icon, asks Carolina Herrera, if you’re not wearing clothes?

Designer Carolina Herrera stands next to an inspiration board in her New York showroom.
(Photo:short formal dresses australia)

Designer Carolina Herrera, wearing a well-tailored, cream-coloured dress and a bouquet of lavender brooches, strides into her office on Seventh Avenue with the elongated posture of a dancer. She has fresh-from-the-salon hair that belies the day’s spitting rain. She wears a discreet hint of lipstick. She looks pristine, unhurried and genteel.

There are a lot of designers who choose bland attire — T-shirts and jeans, basic black jersey — as a kind of camouflage. They don’t want to distract from the glory of their collection. Herrera serves as a template, a role model, for the woman who buys her clothes — or at least whom that woman aspires to be.

Herrera maintains a sharp eye for the details that can spoil a look: the stray hair, a skirt that wrinkles across the hips, the bodice that strains against its buttons. Her style is not fussy or old-fashioned, but it is formal. It is considered. Herrera, after all, believes that every woman should own a dress, a pencil skirt and an evening gown.

Herrera’s style stands out in our aggressively informal times. To attend a runway show for her signature collection is to be swept into a room filled with social swells, wealthy shoppers and ladies with foreign accents and terribly convoluted names suggesting nobility somewhere in the upper branches of their family tree.

This is the world out of which Herrera herself emerged, more than 30 years ago, at the age of 40, to launch her own ready-to-wear collection. She was born into wealth in Venezuela and married into Spanish nobility. Over the years, she has built a Seventh Avenue-based company that includes her signature line, epitomized by the elegant evening dresses that appear regularly at red carpet occasions, as well as fragrances, bridal gowns and a secondary collection, CH.

Herrera, 76, has succeeded in the fashion industry by refraining from chasing cool. She does not aspire to be hip or edgy. She always wants to surprise her customer with something fresh — because what does a woman say to herself upon walking into a store if not, “What’s new?” — but she is not out to shock them.

“If you are a designer who is born hip and cool, then fine, you can do it. But I don’t understand a designer who sees hip and cool (young designers) and they want to be like the newcomers. You confuse the client,” she says.

Herrera aspires to be something more subtle: contemporary, something her four daughters help her with by wearing her classic dresses in such disparate ways. Contemporary is also a mantra she shared with her friend, the late designer Oscar de la Renta. “He always (did) the same silhouette for his designs, but with a modern twist,” she says.

Jaws need not drop for Herrera to declare a collection a success. In fact, she is disappointed — troubled, baffled — by fashion’s current version of one-upsmanship: the idea that modern is synonymous with show-your-tush.

Some designers think “it’s so modern to be naked or almost naked. They think it’s going to attract younger people if they do those dresses. No!” Herrera says emphatically. “The almost naked! Oh God! They’re trying to get people to pay attention to them. In life, there should be a little mystery.”

Herrera turns to the recent Costume Institute gala to make her point. Exhibits A through C: Beyoncé and her bedazzled mosquito netting; Jennifer Lopez in a red beaded gown that was all front and back and no sides; Kim Kardashian with a train of white feathers trailing from a derriere served up for admiration.

“They’re supposed to be fashion icons and they’re not wearing anything,” Herrera says in a tone that is both exasperated and dismayed. “It’s an obsession now.”

Herrera is not a prude. She is more than willing to give her customers a plunging neckline, but doing so requires care and a precise placement of the breasts underneath the fabric. “If it’s open so much, they look like fried eggs,” Herrera says. “Fashion is about proportion.”

The Carolina Herrera brand debuted in 1981. A socialite, Herrera was urged into fashion by the legendary editor Diana Vreeland. In 1995, the company was purchased by the Barcelona-based luxury conglomerate, Puig, which also owns Nina Ricci andPaco Rabanne, as well as a controlling interest in Jean Paul Gaultier. Of these fashion houses, Herrera’s is probably the least attentive to shifts in trends. To stay true to one’s aesthetic sometimes means shunning fads, which can leave a designer outside the fashion conversation. “For me, fashion is about originality, sophistication and beauty,” Herrera says. “I’m not in the fashion business; I’m in the beauty business.”

“You can’t always please the press,” Herrera says. “That’s for your ego.”

Her stubborn restraint has been embraced by first ladies such as Laura Bush and Michelle Obama, who notably chose a Herrera gown — with an embroidered black lace bodice and liberty blue skirt — when the White House hosted a 2014 state dinner for French president François Hollande.

But Herrera’s most loyal client is, perhaps, the actress Renee Zellweger. The two met almost 15 years ago at a Costume Institute gala celebrating the public wardrobe of Jacqueline Kennedy. The actress and the designer chatted and Zellweger asked if she might visit Herrera in her studio. “It was lovely, uncomplicated and easy. Personal,” Herrera says.

The bond, one not bartered through a stylist, has endured. A rarity. “There’s no fidelity,” Herrera says of relationships between designers and celebrities. “There’s millions of designers and they’re offering spectacular things. (Celebrities) go from one to the other.”

Still, dressing bold-faced names resonates. “They go all over the world and if they look fabulous, it’s great for the house,” Herrera says. And if they look a wreck? The house takes the fall. But rest assured, they will not be half-naked. Not on Herrera’s watch.Read more here:elegant evening dresses

The brides taking drastic measures to look perfect on their wedding day

Every bride-to-be knows that “something old, something new” is meant to bring good luck on their wedding day.

But the something new is now taking on a different meaning, with one in three tempted to follow the latest celebrity trend for “bridalplasty” – cosmetic surgery to ensure they look flawless on their big day.

Kim Kardashian had Botox and fillers when she wed Kanye West and is even rumoured to have had a procedure to remove fat from her toes so she could squeeze them into pointy stilettos, nicknamed a “Loub job”.

You and Your Body’s resident expert Lesley Reynolds reveals: “We’ve seen a 40 per cent rise in demand for bridal procedures and, with non-surgical treatments like Botox and dermal fillers, a cosmetic procedure has left its taboo status behind.

“We’ve also seen grooms, parents or in-laws and, in some cases, the best man and bridesmaids all taking their beauty preparations as seriously as the bride.

“Why shouldn’t brides look their best on the day? Walking up the aisle is the biggest day of her life with all eyes and cameras on her.”

She adds: “Most brides I see treat their makeover as an investment, not just for their big day but as a chance to change what they don’t like about themselves.”

Former EastEnders actress Lucy Speed turned to Lesley for help to look stunning when she married actor Spencer Austin.

Lucy, 38, who had battled adult acne for years, was prescribed an intensive skincare routine with high strength products alongside monthly skin peels and microdermabrasions, which gently remove the outer layer of skin.

She says: “My biggest worry was the size of my spots which could sometimes be so enormous and painful and impossible to disguise under make-up. They could actually distort the size of my face.”

Lesley started treating Lucy at the Harley Street Skin Clinic six months before her wedding in September 2009.

Lucy says: “I used to have monthly, followed by fortnightly then, as the wedding drew closer, weekly appointments. Sometimes I was really busy but I stuck to the schedule.”While starring in The Bill she learned the show was going to be filmed in HD – adding to the stress for Lucy.

She says: “About a month before the wedding my complexion became entirely different; smooth, even and spot-free for the first time in 10 years.

“I remember looking forward to the dressing up and not just the ceremony. On the day I felt confident and I knew my skin had never looked better.”

Lucy’s mum Sue, 68, was so impressed she decided to have laser treatment to resurface her complexion as she’d also suffered with acne as a teenager.

“I felt confident in my own skin. Feeling like that on my daughter’s wedding day was priceless,” she says. Their treatments cost £3,500.

City executive Danielle Lovegrove was also self-conscious about acne scarring before she married last August. She had a three-month course of SmartXide laser treatment costing £1,500.

“I’d always wanted flawless skin after suffering acne and it was the number one priority on my bridal makeover list,” says Danielle, from Bromley, Kent.

Her regime also included glycolic peels and she used mineral make-up which actually helps treat the skin.

Finally she had a course of PDT Light Treatments, which uses light therapy to clear up blemishes and prevent outbreaks. Danielle says: “Everyone commented on how I glowed and looked flawless and natural. I still receive compliments on the condition of my skin now.”

Shane Richie’s wife Christie and her mum Jackie Goddard spent £10,000 on their combined treatments – crucial as the big day was being photographed for a magazine.

Christie had a non-invasive form of lipo called Viora Reaction, which melted excess fat from her stomach and back area using heat. She also had monthly glycolic peels and a daily skincare routine.

The mum of three, who married in 2007, says: “My wedding was – apart from having my children – the biggest day of my life and it was important I looked my best, especially as the wedding was being covered by a glossy mag.”

Jackie opted for Botox to iron out lines on her forehead, filler to plump her cheeks and a hand lift with laser therapy.

Christie beams: “On the day we both felt like a million dollars.”Read more here:short formal dresses

Wedding Bells Soon Will Ring For Sofia Vergara And Joe Manganiello

Sofia Vergara revealed she’s going to tie the knot with fiancé Joe Manganiello soon and that the wedding will take place in a secret place far away. "It's going to happen soon," the "Modern Family" star told E! News during the Screen Actors Guild Foundation's Los Angeles Golf Classic on Monday, where she was honored with the inaugural Actors Inspiration Award.

Their wedding will be held in a very secret place where “nobody will find us,” stated the actress. Vergara even joked that the nuptials will take place in a plane!

The couple recently celebrated their five-month engagement by throwing a massive party with family and friends at Soho House in West Hollywood, reported Perez Hilton on May 11. The lovebirds posted pictures from the event on Instagram. Manganiello’s good friend Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a few words of wisdom and congratulated the sexy couple.

Baby plans may soon be underway, with Vergara open to the idea of having children with her fiancé. The 42-year-old actress, who has a 22-year-old son, told Redbook magazine last month: "Joe is younger than me. He's 38. He's never had kids. How am I going to say no? I tell him if we're going to do this, we have to do it, like, now, because I don't want to be 50 with a baby."

Vergara also revealed to the magazine that she knew that Manganiello, best known for "True Blood," was “the one” because their relationship was "easy." She explained, "I finally realized that relationships don't need to be so much work. Ever since we met, it's been so easy. I'm very suspicious. I'm like, 'It's not normal that we've been together for nine months and we haven't had a big fight or anything.' "

Life couldn’t be any sweeter for Vergara. Aside from having a successful career and a love-filled relationship, the Colombian-born star also received the Actors Inspiration Award for her support of nonprofits and children's organizations.Read more here:bridesmaid dresses online

Remedies for hair problems during summer

Remedies for hair problems during summer
(Photo:purple formal dresses)

Take extra care of your tresses in summer. Using coconut milk for lifeless hair and undergoing a regular trim for people who are suffering from thin hair, during this season will help, says an expert.

Here are some tips from Aashmeen Munjaal, owner of the capital-based Star Salon n' Spa, which can help you to keep your hair looking shiny and healthy.

* Protect your hair from chlorine: During summer, the best way to beat the heat is to take a dip in a pool. But we tend to forget that chlorine which is mixed in the pool water can easily damage our hair. To avoid that damage, apply thick layer of oil or conditioner and wear a tight swimming cap. Make sure that you go for a plain shower, do not use shampoo just after the dip. If you are a regular swimmer alternate sessions of hair spa will maintain the quality of your hair.

* Oily scalp: People who have oily scalp should not use conditioner as it will make your hair more oily. Still, if you want to opt for conditioners go for water-based conditioners, they will keep your hair protected from the harsh sun and at the same time will not let them become oily during summer. To remove excess oil from your hair, you can give it a gentle rinse with lemon juice. As a quick fix remedy, spray a bit of astringent in your hair and brush it on to get that instant fresh shine in your hair.

* Static hair: Static hair is the most common problem during winter, but it doubles up in summer as people spend most of their time indoors under air conditioner. And due to its consistency, hair tends to lose its moisture and eventually becomes static. To overcome this problem, you can spray a leave-in serum and comb your hair. If you want to get rid of this problem, make sure that you oil your hair regularly and provide it with mild steaming.

* Lifeless hair: Lifeless hair is a big no-no in any season. It can ruin your entire look, persona and elegance at the first glance. Rinsing your hair with coconut milk is the most sorted solution to get rid of this problem. If you lack free time, get hair texturing from a professional. Usage of shine enhancers is also a very good option as it stays on for two to three months. Use volumiser at the roots of the hair before you blow dry it.

* Protection of coloured hair: Avoiding heat and humidity is practically impossible when the sun is blazing hot. The most important thing is to cover up your hair with a scarf or a big beach hat as often as you can. If you have spent more time in the sun, taking a shower after that is not a bad idea, but mind the temperature for hot or lukewarm water is not a good idea. Use cold water instead -- the colder the water, the more the colour will stick to your hair. At least one shot of cold water at the end of your shower makes your hair shinier because it seals the cuticle. You should also use hair sunscreen with maximum of SPF 10.

* Get rid of sticky hair: People who often face the problem of sticky hair should always opt for dry shampoo or a spray on of dry shampoo. If you want to pamper your hair to a larger extent, mix egg white and lemon and rinse your hair with this mixture thrice a week. Shikakai is a natural ingredient to overcome sticky hair in summers.

* Hair thinning: Hair thinning is a major problem when it comes to overall haircare. To avoid hair thinning, regular trimming sessions within a period of 30-40 days are advised. It will not only add to the volume of your hair but will stop it from hair problems like split ends. Use of brush with soft bristles is recommended accompanied with good combing techniques. Don't be harsh while detangling your hair after a shampoo.Read more here:green formal dresses

The daughter of one of the region’s most successful retail entrepreneurs has marked her first year in business with the opening of a new store and plans to expand outside the North East.

It has been a full year since Jenny Peng Gillender set up website Peak Boutique, an online fashion store offering women’s clothing and accessories from a range of affordable brands.

Operating from a base in Fenham, Newcastle, Miss Peng Gillender’s venture has garnered international acclaim since its launch, accruing regular celebrity shoppers as well as taking orders from around the world.

The business – which has so far retailed through peakboutique.co.uk and through its eBay shop – has now opened its first store on Acorn Road in Jesmond and plans are being discussed to roll out more Peak Boutique to key cities including Manchester, Glasgow and London’s Kings Road in Chelsea.

Within the next year the young entrepreneur also has designs on creating her own fashion range, to sell through her business.

Miss Peng Gillender is the daughter of Wilf Gillender, who owned the master franchise of Body Shop in the North East, as well as for the whole of France, before selling his franchises back to the beauty products giant. He was also instrumental in the creation of the brand’s Body Shop Direct division.

She said: “It has been a fantastic first year for Peak Boutique. We have seen more than 75,000 visitors to the site from around the world and regular orders coming from as far afield as New York and Australia.

“Our clothes have been worn by a host of celebrities and reality TV stars, and we’ve attracted the attention of media across the country.

“We now sell from three different channels now that we have opened the shop, which is such an exciting new addition for us as we begin our second year in business.

“We have big plans for the coming months. I would like to pursue the avenue of opening more shops, and am already looking at potential locations.

“We get a lot of business from London, Manchester and Glasgow, so they are areas I am looking at seriously. I would also love to design my own fashion range – along with setting up a fashion business, designing my own collection is something I have always wanted to do.”

Peak Boutique has been supported since its inception by Newcastle law firm Sintons, in particular Christopher Welch, partner in the corporate and commercial team, who has acted for the Gillender family for over 20 years, and real estate partner Alok Loomba, who secured the lease for the premises in Jesmond.

Mr Welch added: “In only a year, Peak Boutique has become a real force to be reckoned with in the fashion world. In addition to its thriving online operation, which is enjoying international success, there is now a store which will allow customers in its native North East to have the more traditional shopping experience.

“Jenny and her team have worked incredibly hard over the past year to make Peak Boutique the success that it is, and I am confident that success will continue as they embark on the next phase of the growth of the business.”Read more here:orange formal dresses
